Making a Quilt

Nancy is buying the background material for her quilt. The quilt is a square measuring 9 feet by 9 feet. The material costs $4.75 a square yard. How much will the material cost?

Taking A Break

There will be no problem to solve this week. We are beginning a new chapter and I want to build some fundamental skills before I post a problem involving our new material. Look for a new problem next week!

Puzzle Pieces

This week's problem is a real challenge. You will have to find the area of each piece and put them together to get the total area. This is a hard problem, so I will give a Homework pass to anyone that gets it correct. Remember to tell me how you got your answers. If you want to just post your answers, I will accept a written copy of your work to make life easier.

George has two geometric shapes. One is a square with sides that measure 3 inches and the other is a circle with a diameter of 3 inches. Which shape has the larger area?

Perimeter and Area

John has created a square garden measuring 12ft on each side. The short side of Sarah's rectangle garden also measures 12ft.

*If the longer side of Sarah's garden is 1 1/2 times longer than the other side, What is the Perimeter?
