I was disappointed that no one tried the "Speeding Ticket" problem. I am going to leave it up for one more week. I will give a free-homework pass to any student that gets it correct and explains HOW.

The fine for a speeding ticket is $45.45 + M. (M = the # of miles you were over the speed limit.)

1. Mr. Tanner was stopped for going 38mph in a 25mph school zone. How much as his ticket?

2. Mrs. Bird was fined $52.45 for speeding in a school zone. How fast was she going?

Making a Quilt

Nancy is buying the background material for her quilt. The quilt is a square measuring 9 feet by 9 feet. The material costs $4.75 a square yard. How much will the material cost?

There will be no problem to solve this week. We are beginning a new chapter and I want to build some fundamental skills before I post a problem involving our new material. Look for a new problem next week!

This is a hard problem, so I will give a Homework pass to anyone that gets it correct. Remember to tell me how you got your answers.
